Ginger For Pregnant Women Morning Sickness Relieve
Morning sickness is an unpleasant right of passage for so many pregnant women. Ginger is a home medical remedy for treating the symptoms that has been passed down from mother to daughter for thousands of years.
An Australian study directed by Dr. Caroline Smith shows that ginger is more than just an old wives’ tale; it is very effective for relieving the nausea and vomiting of morning sickness.
They found that ginger and vitamin B-6 one gram of ginger or 75 milligrams of vitamin B-6 (25 milligrams three times a day) were equally effective in reducing nausea, retching and vomiting in 291 pregnant women during the 21-day study.
The supplements didn’t help everyone; 53 percent of the ginger group reported improvement, compared with 55 percent of the vitamin B-6 group. There were no side effects noted in either the mothers of the babies.
The researchers concluded that ginger and vitamin B-6 appear to be safe, effective options for morning sickness. Always see your doctor before taking any supplement or medication during pregnancy.
